It's Labor day and as tradition it demands what else BBQ! Here I am at Good Fire BBQ, after what seemed like an eternity waiting for them to open it's finally here. Okay two truths, first it's been open for almost a year and secondly, this is my second trip here.
Came in just after lunch and it seems that some of the sides are in recovery as the signs over the selections on the menu show " not ready". Which is perfectly fine since this place offers many many choices. Today I tried the potato salad ( white) which was fit to a tee. A quick dash of pepper and its ready for a church luncheon. The mac and cheese is solid with a bit more flavor than the average and the creme corn id solid as well. Opting for the classic trio (13.99) one of the " treat yourself, well why not" plates offers some very tender juicy brisket strong slow cooked flavor, and strong pepper corn notes thru out. The sausage is nice as well, there is a sweet flavor to it and no sulfide taste you get from average sausage. I think the real show piece has to be the pork ribs tender and sweet 3 is ample for this plate. Served with. Two large slices of bread it's a meal fit for sharing or a hard days work. One thing I'd urge is keep the foil the meats arrive in because somethings bound to go home.
One final note, when you pick your seat, don't get to comfortable because once you do your food will be ready. Drop by and enjoy. -

Brisket, ribs, and white bread were decent.
Sides were ok.
The sausage was completely black and the outside was hard like it was sitting all day.
All the silverware in the containers were dirty. High chairs were dirty and broken. Parking sucked. -

We had business in the area but we weren't familiar with the area restaurants, so when we drove by this place, we turned back around. After all, who can turn down BBQ?
We had the dogs with us, so we had to use the drive through. The entire set-up was pretty screwy...tight, narrow lanes Marked 1 & 2. Each lane had a menu, but no speaker to place your order (that we could find). We assumed we would order at the next spot, so we drove around the corner. Again, no order speaker, yet there were 2 order lanes and only one, small drive-up window. There wasn't anyone at the window, so we chose that lane. The employee took our order, but by the time we were done, it was completely different than what we wanted.
"We'll take a quarter pound of turkey and a quarter pound of brisket."
"You can only order meat by the pound or half pound."
"Ok, give us a pint of pulled pork."
"Sorry, we don't sell that anymore."
"Ok, we'll have a half pound of brisket."
"Do you want the three sides with it?"
"Sure."
"The family meal only comes with 1 pound orders."
"Ah.....ok......"
"So do you want the one pound with three sides?"
"No, it's too much. How about a brisket sandwich? Does it come with a side."
"That'll be a dollar more."
Whew! Now that we have customer service out of the way, let's talk about food quality...
My food: Brisket and sausage sandwich with a side of vinegar slaw.
Hubs food: Turkey sandwich with a side of mustard potato salad
First the good:
- The portions were ENORMOUS!! Each of our sammies were piled high with meat. No skimping on portion size! Thumbs up from 2 hungry patrons!
- The vinegar slaw was on point. Cabbage, red onions, carrots, red bell peppers, and dice jalapeños in a sweet vinegar dressing. Really tasty! I'd order that side again.
- The buns appeared to be homemade, and boy were they tasty! Slightly buttered, then grilled and browned on both sides, yet moist and not at all heavy. Really good. Definitely keepers.
Now for the BBQ:
- The brisket had a nice smoke flavor, but had the texture of meat that had been braised or steamed in foil...not smoked low and slow. More of a "pot roast" feel than a BBQ brisket feel. Not bad, but definitely not what I was expecting. I'm not sure if this would be a repeat or not. Maybe one more shot and if still the same, I'd write it off.
- The sausage was heavily seasoned with black pepper and another spice I couldn't identify. Not bad, but I really wasn't fond of the flavor. I wouldn't order it again.
- Hubs turkey had a good smoke flavor and was quite moist (he said; I didn't taste it). He said he'd order it again. He also said he enjoyed the mustard potato salad, but it could use more mustard (his personal preference).
All in all, this place was an "ok" find. Good if you're hungry...not so good if you're a foodie looking for really decent BBQ. Just my opinion...YMMV -

Lord. I'm so torn.
First let me get this out the way.
The sides are outstanding. I had Mac and cheese. Mustard potato salad. Cream corn.
All good
The bread is wonderful. The desserts are on point.
I loved all the sides.
They have those fabulous nachos that made the owner rich.
Can I stop there?
Here we go.
The bbq is ok. My ribs reminded me of why I don't like Rudy's. The meat is wrapped up after being cooked and they then become almost steamed bbq.
The flavor is there but the final product just won't cut it.
The bbq is decently priced which makes it equally hard to not like.
I'm going to go back and see if it changes at a different time of day.
For now I'm going with 3 solid stars. -

Ordered the brisket nachos which were very favorable to those as Chachos across the street. (Now closed). They ran out of guacamole which is cool. Nachos were crunchy and they were not greedy the brisket. I thought the full order was a bit pricey for the amount of nachos on the plate. The iced tea was the same as chachos as well. My wife had the baked potato with bbq beef. Big potato but lacked the explosive flavors. Probably will not visit again.
P.S - I don't need the owner to reply and offer me something for free. My review is not compromised.
